           Burton is a graduate of McGavock High School in Nashville. She continued her education through the American Institute of Banking in Nashville, taking numerous courses relating to the financial industry.

           Burton began her 24-year banking career as a teller and customer service representative in 1980 with the former Third National Bank (now SunTrust). Advancing in her chosen career, she moved to Murfreesboro in 1993. Her last position before starting at MidSouth Bank was business banking relationship manager.

           In 2003, she served as co-chair with the United Way Small Business Campaign.

           Burton and her husband Scot live in Murfreesboro and attend World Outreach Church.
