MIDSOUTH BANK (In Organization) Announces New Officer, D. Edwin Jernigan, Jr.
Lee Moss, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and Ben Weatherford, President, of MIDSOUTH BANK (In Organization), Murfreesboro, have announced that D. Edwin Jernigan, Jr. has joined the Bank as Senior Vice President & Financial Executive. He will create and be responsible for all trust and investment division operations. Jernigan attended Auburn University on a four-year Army R.O.T.C. scholarship and upon graduation received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Finance). After college, he served in the United States Army as an officer and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot-in-command. Jernigan was Owner and President of The Jernigan Agency, a full service insurance and financial consulting firm representing numerous insurance and financial services companies from 1994 to 1997. In 1997, he joined SunTrust Banks, Inc. as Vice President of Investments. He was responsible for all aspects of office operations including office management; customer service; fiduciary accounts; investment account management; and professional development. He is licensed in property, casualty, life, and health insurance, and maintains Series 7, 63, and 65 securities registrations. Jernigan's professional accreditations include Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF). In addition to his busy professional schedule, Jernigan participates in many community and civic organizations. He serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for The Childrens Discovery Center; Chairman of the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Commission; a member of the Board of Directors for Murfreesboro Young Life; and a member of the Murfreesboro Golf Commission. He formerly served as Treasurer for State Representative John Hood's campaign. He, his wife Sheri Freeman Jernigan, and sons, Trey and Parker, are active members of the First United Methodist Church. In early January, 2003, Jack Weatherford, Senior Chairman; Lee Moss, Chairman and CEO; and Ben Weatherford, President, of MidSouth Bank (In Organization) announced their intention of founding the new Bank. It will be headquartered in Murfreesboro and will likely be capitalized with at least $15 million raised by organizers from residents in Middle Tennessee. The initial plans for the new Bank include two offices in Murfreesboro and one in Smyrna/LaVergne area, but site locations have yet to be announced. The organization has set up an office to handle inquiries about the bank at 1138 Dow St. in Murfreesboro and can be reached at 494-4949.
