Richard was born in Great Falls, Montana while his father was serving in the US Air Force. He is a graduate of Spring Hill High School in Spring Hill, Tennessee. He attended Columbia State Community College where he received his Associate of Science degree, which led him to Middle Tennessee State University where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration and later his Master of Arts in Financial Economics.

Richard began his career working with Federated Mutual Insurance Company where he specialized in working with local businesses and all aspects of their insurance exposures, including: property, casualty, environmental, and key man and buy-sell agreements. Stone then worked for Merrill Lynch advising businesses and consumers on their financial planning and investment management. Prior to joining MidSouth Bank in 2006, he worked for 5/3 Bank and AmSouth Bank (now Regions Bank) in their commercial lending and business banking departments.

Stone is a strong proponent for, and is committed to, community involvement. He is currently serving as President and Treasurer for the Jesse C. Beesley Foundation, on the board of directors for First Shot Basketball, and the Leadership Rutherford Council. Stone is a member of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee Bankers Association, and the Murfreesboro Noon Rotary Club. Richard has served on several committees and on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee and is currently serving in an advisory role. He has also been a big brother for the past 8 years and was awarded Big Brother of the Year in 2002. He has also volunteered with JazzFest, Weatherford Chair of Finance Golf Tournament, Men of Valor, and YMCA youth basketball.

He and his wife, Tara, are proud parents of daughter, Jackson, and son, Brady. He and his family attend World Outreach Church. His hobbies include hiking, golf and enjoying the many community activities in Rutherford County with his family.
